Strep A throat test and treat
**This service has been suspended during Covid **
An easy way to test and treat a sore throat without needing to see a GP.
Sore throats are a common ailment particularly in the winter, may last up to one week and are usually viral. Many over the counter medicines including painkillers, lozenges, sprays, gargles and fluids can be used to manage symptoms.
We offer an additional service for those who may have a bacterial throat infection. Strep A is the most common cause of bacterial throat infections. Our specially trained pharmacists can swab the throat and determine if a strep A bacterial infection is present using a rapid test kit which gives the result in a few minutes.
If the swab shows a bacterial infection present, the pharmacist can prescribe antibiotics which the patient can start immediately without waiting for a GP consultation.
If the swab is not bacterial, they can suggest treatments to manage your symptoms such as painkillers, lozenges, sprays, gargles and fluids.
This service provides you with the convenience of the pharmacy with no prior appointment and includes weekends.
This is a private service where you pay for your consultation and treatment from your pharmacist.
